Stay Hydrated, It's Hot Out There
One of the more recent sneak peeks into the upcoming Fantastic Four set turns up just in time to keep us hydrated during these upcoming hot summer months. Hydro-Man splashes in at a very solid 75 points. Let's break down just how much of a wet blanket he can become to rain on your opponents' parade.
Team Role
His 1st click can help him act like a whirlpool bogging opponents down with Shape Change and Impervious rolls. "Drown on Dry Land" gives him a bit of extra reach to drown exposed enemy groupings. Late dial Plasticity/Pulse Wave keeps him a threat regardless of how much he's evaporated. Indomitable really lets you pour on the pressure to keep your enemies from resting. Hydro-Man can fill a lot of roles on most teams as he can be a tank (not a fish tank), tie-up, or mop I mean mob/map control.
Clix Combos
I always like to bring Tiger Shark (either one works) if there's going to be a pool party and Hydro-Man brings the pool with him. You can also pair him with Absorbing Man from Captain America & The Avengers set to give Absorbing Man; Improved Movement: Water. Poison, Shape Change, and modify damage +2. Hydro-Man even goes well with his namesake from Superior Foes of Spider-Man as his traits "Water Sustains Me" & "Absorb Excess Water" mix like water and water with Hydro Man's water terrain markers. Comparing Clix
Submerged below is the last iteration(s) of Hydro Man from the Superior Foes of Spider-Man set. Looking at points costs, the new one fills the fish tank nicely giving you a nice option in between the 2 point values of 100 & 60. The keywords remain stagnant on both new and old, although the new one loses both team abilities to add a traited one that gives him some extra survivability. He also loses the extra click of Impervious, but his 2 extra Shape Change clicks make up for that.
Final Verdict:
Additions to Masters of Evil and Sinister Syndicate are always welcomed. At 75 points he's a solid deal. Multiple roles increase his playability, and being Indomitable helps increase his team value as it will allow him to focus on his role nicely. Not having team abilities hurt his rating a little.
