New Toys from Uncanny X-Men!

With the upcoming release of Uncanny X-Men looming, like any set before it offers to bring some new toys to the table for us to play with. This series of articles is just meant to give you a glance of what's to come, and they don't go into too much details regarding synergy and potential casual-combos. So let's get to it and break down some of the new toys in this set.

Clix FX Bases

We'll start with Clix FX bases since this mechanic is unlike anything we've seen before in Heroclix. Some characters come packed with a Clix FX base that allows players to keep track of their effects. The rare Magneto pictured below is one such character with his Clix FX base underneath him. Clix FX bases are a really cool concept as often we're required to keep track of certain effects by placing markers or tokens on the character's cards, which sometimes causes us to forget those effects as we don't see them in play. Clix FX bases fix that problem because instead of being on the card they fit snugly under the base of the character they're affecting, so you're able to see it as you're playing! Each effect is unique to the character, so I'll make a more in depth analysis in another article once the set is released.

Marauders

Yes, the Marauders have been done before, but never in this amount! 14 to be exact, and to be fair 8 of them had not been clixed or in Vanisher's case he didn't have the Marauders keyword in his last incarnation. What makes them even more unique this time around is that none of them are over 100 points, in fact only Mr. Sinister rings in over 75 points! They all share a trait called "MUTANT MASSACRE" which gives you the option to heal for one damage, or to allow them to modify their speed, attack, and damage by +1. So naturally you'll want to play aggressively with them to make the most out of their trait. Sabretooth is probably the most aggressive of the bunch if he can catch a group off guard, but don't discount Blockbuster's super strength to knock out a character just to trigger their trait. These guys will definitely get a more in depth look when the set releases. Happy mutant hunting!

Avengers Unity Divison

I listed this here as a new toy because this is the first time that two team abilities have been combined, and Wizkids did an exceptional job at it! Cyclops #008 from the Giant-Size X-Men set comes to mind to maximize the use of the "AVENGERS UNITY DIVISION" trait as his "THE X-LEADER" trait allows anyone using the X-Men team ability to heal for 2 damage instead of 1, or if you're looking for something similar to the Unity Division trait Archangel #067 from Wolverine and the X-Men's trait "TEAM BONDING" can serve as a good alternative to get those free heals in.

Age of Apocalypse

Figures based off this fan-favorite story line have been in demand practically since the inception of this game. Before this set we only had 2 figures that had the Age of Apocalypse keyword, rare #048 Blink from Deadpool and the limited edition rarity #102 Nightcrawler from Wolverine and the X-Men. With 6 new chase figures to collect, each one brings something different to the table. Arguably they all seem a little under-costed for what they do, but it makes sense considering they're chase figures. Magneto has some interesting casual-potential as he will allow any character under 150 points to have the X-Men keyword. I can't wait to make Thor (a personal favorite character) an X-Man and have #036 Professor X from Giant-Size X-Men set put him in contact with Cerebro. Good luck pulling those chase figures!
