Civil War: Team Captain America

Captain America: Civil War releases on May 6 in the U.S., so naturally I'm excited to build both teams based off the movie. While the new Civil War gravity feed set gave us a ready to play starter, I decided instead to build teams off the airport fight scene from the trailer instead. We'll start with Team Captain America first since it's his movie after all, although after seeing everyone go crazy for Spider-Man and Black Panther you'd think otherwise. Anyway, on to the team. I decided to restrict myself to only using figures from movie sets when building this team, and I tried to keep it on the low-costing side as well. So here's the team:

Team Captain America

55 AAOU 010 Scarlet Witch

55 CACW 005 Ant-Man

95 CACWS 004 Falcon

94 AAOU 009 Hawkeye

100 CATWS 101 Captain America

95+5 CACWS 005 Winter Soldier

Total = 499

Scarlet Witch was an easy include because besides the fact that she's awesome, she's also the only movie Scarlet Witch available. Same goes for Ant-Man, although a case could have been made for using Giant-Man from the Civil War set, but the scene shows Ant-Man in all his arrow-riding glory so we'll go with him instead. After including those two I noticed I had plenty of support powers in Outwit, Perplex, Probability Control, and Support, but I still went ahead and added another Perplex in the form of Falcon. In case you haven't noticed when you're playing games, support powers are crucial to having a decent team. I wasn't really banking on casual-combos like using the Hawkeye from Civil War to shoot Ant-Man and friends around the map, so going for straight up power is a good substitute.

It took me a while to settle on that particular Winter Soldier, and I almost chose the #105 version from the Captain America: The Winter Soldier starter set for his stealth-busting, but I went with the Civil War gravity feed version since Hawkeye and Falcon already ignore hindering terrain for movement and line of fire purposes thanks to the Avengers Initiative team ability. I also wanted a Winter Soldier that is a more lethal choice for close combat since I was lacking in that department. With Blades/Claws/Fangs throughout his dial and 4 clicks of Flurry he's going to get targeted from a distance, so he's a natural choice for the "I'M WITH CAP TRAIT" to at least give him a chance of surviving while he engages the enemy. Oh, and don't forget to carry Ant-Man into battle with him, because once they're done moving you can give Ant-Man a free action to activate his "Sneaking In" trait which can make Winter Soldier "tiny-size" and give him +1 defense against range as his bonus for being tiny.

Captain America was an interesting choice as there are so many to choose from. I went with the Captain America: The Winter Soldier starter set version because of the S.H.I.E.L.D. team ability that can help both Hawkeye and Falcon get +1 range or if needed +1 damage as well. Since this version of Captain America lacks Leadership, I chose the Hawkeye that can possibly not get an action token when he successfully hits at least one character thanks to his "AVENGERS ASSEMBLE!" trait.

Some important things to remember:

*Don't be afraid to use Scarlet Witch's trait "UNCAGING THE BEAST" if it will hurt the opponent. All her clicks are good, so use it as needed without worrying about her too much.

*Ant-Man's Pym Particle Discs can turn an opposing character into a giant, so it can potentially open up new lines of fire as the new line of fire rules for giant's allow you (and that character) to see practically over anything. Here's a link in case you missed the new rules, SIZE CATEGORIES.

*Position your objects well, because Hawkeye can benefit from their positioning the most. His "Rooftop Maneuver" special power gives him Stealth and Sidestep, so he can move from object to object for free, stay in Stealth, and attack up to 3 characters.

*Use Captain America as needed either assisting Falcon and Hawkeye, Incapacitating some stragglers, or throw him in harm's way. While he's not a great close attack kind of guy, he isn't bad either since his "Military Training" special power gives him Combat Reflexes and Toughness which means he can take a punch or two. Plus he has a stop click making him impossible to one-shot and tough to take out in two hits.

*Winter Soldier is also a multi-threat. He opens with Ranged Combat Expert so he can set up shop somewhere and blast away if needed. Don't be afraid to push him either because he gets Outwit!

* Have fun, it's just a game after all.
